Updates

Today I thought I would give you some updates from past posts.   I am very fortunate to get a lot of great comments and suggestions to my posts, so I thought you might be interested to know how things turned out:

RelaxingMeet My New Blog, Taking Care of Me!  - My new blog is off to a nice start.  I’ve had some introduction posts, set up some medical appointments , and even went for a mammogram (and a call back).

exelon_logo1.gifWhen Mom’s Medicine Makes Her Sick - I received a lot of good ideas on ways to help Mom remember to take off her Excelon patch with Alzheimer’s medicine before she puts on a new one.  We’re trying a system where Mom takes off the patch when she’s done with it and sticks on a paper with the days of the week marked.  So far she’s doing a good job and hasn’t had two patches on at the same time.

plane-crash1.jpgIf You Could Choose, How Would You Spend the Last Moments of Your Life?  - On tonight’s local news, they said that the 80-year-old man who survived this plane crash near our house died today of a heart attack.  They weren’t sure if it was related to the injuries he suffered in the crash.  I guess when it’s your time to go, it’s your time…

respite1.jpgRespite Care:  Checking Out My Options - I’m actually still working on this one.  I asked for information from three different senior care agencies in our area.  One emailed me to let me know their office was closed, one never responded, and the third did respond and said they would have to do an assessment.  They told me their rates were around $17 - $20 per hour.  I’m also looking into some other referrals from our local senior center and agency on aging.  Also, I will keep going to my Caregiver Support Group to see what they do for respite care.  Looks like we won’t be staying out of town this month for one of Angel’s soccer games, but I’ll keep trying to line something up for another time.

Thanks for the updates. :) That’s too bad that man died after surviving the plane crash.

Lin - You’re right, I know the solution is out there, but I just haven’t found it yet. Last night I did get a call from my cousin’s 17-year-old daughter. She is interested in helping us out if we need someone to stay with Mom. Definitely a lead I will pursue!

Jen - Hey, no problem. I know how busy things can get!

laneerg - Yeah, wasn’t that sad? Our local paper also had a story about it. It said he was doing very well recovering from his injuries, and it seemed like everyone was surprised he had a fatal heart attack.

Roxie - Thanks! I thought some readers might want to know how things turned out.
